Firstly, the tenant has the right to examine and realize any document that he is needed to sign. The tenant also has the right to get hold of a copy of anything that he signs.
Secondly, the building that is let out must be livable. There must be enough hot and cold drinking water available, provisions for disposal of trash, heating, windows, doors, smoke detectors, and bathrooms. Landlords must fix or replace those things that are broken.
Tenant right includes the right to create or join organizations for the enhancement of their conditions and safeguard of their rights. As long as the meetings are conducted quietly and during practical hours, the landlords cannot penalize tenant who do this.
Tenant right to privacy can be exercised in their premises. The landlord can only enter the premises during an urgent situation or by giving a 24 hours notice to the tenant regarding their wish to enter the building.
The landlord has no right to distinguish between prospective tenants on grounds of color, creed, religion, gender, age or nationality. By law, every tenant is to be considered equal.
The security deposit that is paid at the time of signing of the lease has to be returned to the tenant within a month of vacating the premises. The tenant right includes the right to know what deductions from the security deposit were made and why.
Lastly, the tenant holds the right of not being evicted, unless it is for a convincing reason like non-payment of rent.
